THE IMPORTANCE OF LANGUAGE CLEANING IN ORAL HEALTH
The food we eat and the drinks we drink pass through the mouth and are sent to our digestive system. You can brush your teeth twice a day and use regular dental floss. However, our digestive system continues to work while we sleep. It brings the toxins accumulated in the body all night to the surface of the tongue. The strange taste in the mouth when you wake up in the morning is due to the accumulation of these toxins in the tongue.
If you still do not spare time for tongue cleaning, you are missing an important step in your oral care. Tongue cleaning, which is based on removing the rust and bacteria accumulated on the tongue with a tongue cleaning device, helps to reduce bad breath to a great extent.
Why is tongue cleaning necessary?
Digestion begins in the mouth. There are bacteria in the mouth that help digest food, are carried by saliva, and accumulate with residues left in the mouth. Some of these bacteria are necessary for digestion, but a thorough cleaning of the mouth is necessary as excess bacteria create bad odour. Cleaning in the mouth, where organisms such as bacteria and fungi are present, means ensuring the balance of bacteria. There are many benefits of cleaning that you can do with the help of a tongue scraper in a minute.
If the toxins accumulated in the tongue are not cleaned, it negatively affects not only oral health, but also the digestive and respiratory system. Over time, this can cause bad conditions such as bad breath, and it can also cause damage to the digestive system by oral secretions. For this reason, tongue cleaning has an important place for the health of the whole body.
How to clean tongue?
One of the commonly used apparatus for tongue cleaning; are toothbrushes. However, toothbrushes do not provide adequate cleaning. It cannot completely clean the toxins accumulated in the tongue. This is not enough for oral health.
A tongue cleaning brush or tongue spatula can be used for upper tongue cleaning. In the meantime, you should be careful not to damage the tongue. You can also use a toothbrush instead of a tongue cleaning spatula. Studies have shown that there is no big difference in tongue cleaning performance between toothbrush and tongue spatula.
• The tongue is cleaned by swabbing from back to front with a cleaning apparatus, brush or spoon. If it is started from far back, it should be treated gently and carefully, as the gag reflex may occur.
• Try to clean your tongue from the back to the front.
• Scrape clean not only the middle of your tongue, but also the entire top and side surfaces of your tongue.
• If you are using a tongue brush, move the tongue brush from the back of the tongue to the front of the tongue, as with the tongue cleaner. You may need to perform this method several times to adequately clean your entire tongue.
• Rinse gently after using the tongue brush or tongue scraper to remove bacteria and food residue from the tongue area you have cleaned.
• Mouth rinsing is complementary to the stripping process, in which only the top of the tongue is cleaned. Thanks to rinsing, plaques left on the sides of the tongue, under the cheeks, between the teeth and on the palate can be removed.
When you do your daily tooth brushing, you should definitely do oral care as well. Oral and tongue care done twice a day in total will be sufficient. If there is a persistent bad breath and any pain in the teeth, you should definitely be examined by the dentist.
